Electrical Grid Outages Are Spiking This Summer …

… Be Ready With Trystar’s “Quick Ship” Power Cable!

Throughout July 2025, the United States and Canada have faced a relentless barrage of extreme weather events. In the U.S., severe storms and tornadoes have swept across the central and eastern regions, triggering widespread flooding in states like Texas, New Mexico, New Jersey, and New York. Flash floods, intense heatwaves, and high humidity have gripped large portions of the continent, straining power grids and challenging communities already reeling from earlier storms.

Canada has not been immune to these challenges, with intense heat and sporadic storms impacting several provinces. Wildfires fueled by prolonged dry spells and high temperatures have threatened communities and natural resources … while heavy rainfall in some areas has led to localized flooding.

Consider the following examples of the extreme North American weather just in the past few weeks … from mid-July 2025 through today, July 29:

  • An intense “heat dome” has much of the Midwest, Southeast, and Southern Plains under warnings for “feels like” heat index temperatures topping 115 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Severe thunderstorms with heavy rain prompted flood watches and warnings for states which typically don’t flood: e.g., parts of northern Washington state, central New Mexico, central Kansas, northern Minnesota and Wisconsin, and also extending from eastern Kentucky through West Virginia.
  • Coastal flooding of normally-dry beaches, coastal erosion, and saltwater inundation occurred on 5 of the Hawaiian islands (including Maui and the Big Island) during peak high tides this week.
  • Recent tropical storms (“Barry” and “Chantal”) dumped 10+ inches of rain along the Gulf Coast and central North Carolina.
  • Heavy rain swept through New York City recently, and temporarily flooded and closed several subway lines.
  • Over 300 wildfires are burning throughout the northwestern United States, Alaska, and Canada.
  • And today (July 29), slow-moving thunderstorms and heavy rain are impacting the wildfire burn-scarred areas of western Montana and north-central Idaho, which have the potential to trigger flash floods, rockslides in steep terrain, and debris flows through valleys and across roadways.

What Does This Mean To The Electrical Grid?

The surge in extreme weather events across the United States and Canada this July has placed unprecedented stress on the electrical grid, including:

  • Heat-driven peak electrical loads (e.g., HVAC systems and utility infrastructure) are putting a strain on the electrical grid, risking rolling blackouts and complete power outages.
  • Flooded utility substations can create the risk of widespread power outages.
  • Downed power lines caused by severe weather have ignited some of the currently-burning wildfires.
  • Intense heat, flames, smoke, and ash continue to degrade and destroy electrical transmission and distribution infrastructure.
  • Utilities have been proactively shutting-off power in high-risk fire areas, under Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) programs. These programs mitigate wildfire danger and damage, but cost the commercial and residential consumers their critical electrical service during extreme heat or emergencies.

The need for resilient, flexible electrical infrastructure has never been more urgent. The increased frequency of such events strains emergency response systems and disrupts supply chains … highlighting the urgent need for innovative strategies in natural disaster Readiness, Response, Recovery and Restoration.

How Can Trystar Help With Your Readiness, Response, Recovery, And Restoration Efforts?

When a natural disaster strikes — whether wildfires, storms, flash floods, or extreme heat — damaged infrastructure can leave entire communities without power for days. Emergency crews rely on readily-available, heavy-duty, utility cables and power cables to quickly establish temporary connections between generator docking stations, portable generators, portable transformers, and power distribution panels.

Having cable available for immediate deployment can mean the difference between prolonged outages and fast, life-saving power restoration.

Coast to coast within the continental United States, Trystar maintains 7 fully-stocked “Quick Ship” Warehouses to meet all of your cable needs! Note that there are (2) locations in the Houston TX metropolitan area (noted as Stafford TX on the map below).
